Siddha Pokhari of Bhaktapur

Siddha Pokhari (also known as Ta: Pukhu in local language) is one of the traditional pond of Bhaktapur. It is a large and deepest artificial rectangular pond, so Ta: Pukhu is named to this pond. It is located at Dudhpati, Bhaktapur. It lies on the way to the Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Siddha Pokhari was built by King Yaksha Malla during the 15th century. Siddha Pokhari is surrounded by white walls around the pond. There are four gates to enter the pond. Gate is designed with the ancient gates.

Siddha Pokhari is the deepest pond of Bhaktapur. It is said that there are many wells inside the pond so there is no shortage of water in this pond. Visitors can enjoy the different breeds of fish. Visitors can also feed the fish with the food brought from the stalls nearby it. There is a huge crowd every year at Indra Jatra. Siddha Pokhari is also known as the home of goddess Indrayani. So Siddha Pokhari is also known as the IndraDaha.

On the day of Indra Jatra, Siddha Pokhari is decorated by the lamps around the pond. Devotees use to take bath, wash face from the water of the pond. It is believed that on the day of Indra Jatra Goddess Indrayani visit back to her home. There will be cultural show at the pond, sing the ancient and cultural songs the whole night on the day of Indra Jatra.
